It is a functional mountain town rather than a pretty one: guesthouses, bakeries, gear rental and a bus station, surrounded by some of the best landscape in southeast Europe.
Black Lake is a 40-minute walk from the centre. Sedlo pass, the start of the Bobotov Kuk route, is a 30-minute drive. The Tara bridge and rafting camps are 30–60 minutes north. Two nights covers all three comfortably.
Snow can lie on the high trails into June and returns in late October. Even in July, nights drop below 10 °C and afternoon storms build quickly over the plateau — take a shell layer on any hike.
