Montenegro Itineraries — 3, 5, 7 and 10 Day Plans

Ready-made Montenegro trip plans with a day-by-day breakdown, realistic driving times and the activities you can book for each day.

Three days is enough for the Bay of Kotor: Kotor old town and the fortress climb, a boat trip to Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks, and one inland day to Lovćen and Njeguši. Five days adds Budva, Sveti Stefan and either Skadar Lake or Ostrog monastery. Seven to ten days reaches the north — Tara canyon rafting, Durmitor and Žabljak, Biogradska Gora and Kolašin — where distances are short on the map but slow on mountain roads.

Every plan states whether a car is needed. Without one, the car-free itinerary uses transfers and tours that include pickup from Kotor, Budva and Tivat, so the Bay, Skadar Lake and Durmitor are still reachable. Travellers arriving from Dubrovnik can use the combined plan, which starts with the 90 km border crossing and keeps the first Montenegro day light.

Best season for the full range is May to October. Rafting on the Tara runs from late April to early October, Nevidio canyoning from late June to September, and mountain passes such as Sedlo can hold snow into May. In July and August book boat trips and private tours a few days ahead.
