The bay's oldest town — Roman mosaics and Illyrian history
Risan is the oldest settlement in the Bay of Kotor, capital of the Illyrian queen Teuta in the 3rd century BC and later a Roman town. Its main sight is a set of Roman floor mosaics from the 2nd century AD, including the only known depiction of Hypnos, the god of sleep, in the region. It is a quiet working village today, ten minutes past Perast.
May–October. The mosaics site is small and rarely crowded at any time.
