Gateway to Lake Skadar — boats, birds and Crmnica wine
Virpazar is a village of a few hundred people on the western shore of Lake Skadar, and the launch point for almost every boat tour on the largest lake in the Balkans. Family-run boats weave through the water lilies to island monasteries, fortresses and swimming coves, and the Crmnica valley behind the village is Montenegro's main wine region.
May–July for water lilies and bird activity; September and October for wine harvest and calm water.
30 minutes from Podgorica and Bar, 45 from Budva. The Belgrade–Bar railway stops at Virpazar.
