UNESCO mountain wilderness — rafting the deepest canyon in Europe
Durmitor National Park is Montenegro's alpine heart — 48 peaks above 2,000 m, 18 glacial lakes, and the Tara Canyon (1,300 m deep, second only to the Grand Canyon in the world). It's the country's adventure hub: white-water rafting on the Tara, hiking to Bobotov Kuk summit, zipline over the canyon, and winter skiing in Žabljak. Perfect for a 2–4 day escape from the coast.
May–October for rafting and hiking. Rafting peaks in May–June with high water; hiking is best July–September. December–March for skiing.
Žabljak is 2.5h by car from Podgorica, 3h from Kotor/Budva. Most guided rafting day tours include hotel pickup from the coast.

Standard tours run Class II–III rapids — safe for beginners aged 10+ with a certified guide, life jacket and helmet. Multi-day trips include higher-grade sections.
Full day tours from the coast are 12–14 hours door-to-door. The rafting itself is 3–4 hours on the water covering 18 km.
Black Lake and lower trails are family-friendly. Bobotov Kuk requires basic fitness and a guide is recommended for weather and route-finding.
