The capital — airport, canyons and a launchpad for day trips
Podgorica is Montenegro's capital and its transport hub rather than its showpiece. Most of the old town was destroyed in the Second World War, so the city is modern, low-rise and hot in summer. What makes it useful is position: Skadar Lake, Ostrog, Cetinje, the Cijevna waterfalls and the Moraca canyon are all within an hour, and the airport connects to most of Europe.

Podgorica airport (TGD) is 12 km out. Kotor and Budva are about 90 minutes, Žabljak 3 hours, Belgrade by overnight train.
