Most Montenegrin guides are two-person family operations that never show up on Google. Here's how to find them, what things really cost, and what to check before you pay.
Montenegro has world-class guides and almost no way to compare them. This is a practical guide to booking activities here in 2026 — written by a team based in Montenegro that contracts these guides directly.
Most operators are family businesses: two rafts, one minibus, a boat. They don't do SEO, and many still take bookings by WhatsApp. The companies that do rank on Google are usually international resellers adding 25–30% on top of the local price, with a call centre that has never driven the Kotor serpentines.
If a quote is far above this range, you're paying a middleman. Far below, ask what's excluded — usually transfer, park entry or insurance.
Rafting operators must be licensed by the Montenegrin Rafting Federation. Mountain guides working in the national parks need national certification. Skippers need a valid boat licence. Ask for the number, ask for a receipt, and never send a full deposit in cash to someone you haven't met.
In July and August the popular coastal trips — boat days, paragliding — are sold out days ahead. In May, June, September and October you can usually book one to three days in advance. Rafting season is mid-April to mid-October, canyoning June to September.
