One week. Coast, mountains, wine and rafting. The itinerary we send to friends when they ask 'what should I do in Montenegro?'
One week is the sweet spot for Montenegro. Long enough to combine coast and mountains, short enough to keep you moving. This is the itinerary we send friends when they ask what to do.
Fly into Tivat (TIV) or Dubrovnik (DBV). Check in to the Old Town. Sunset walk on the sea wall, dinner at Konoba Scala Santa. Early night — tomorrow starts at 6 am.
Sunrise hike up San Giovanni fortress before the crowds. Afternoon boat to Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks. Wine tasting in Prčanj on the way back.
Drive the 25-hairpin road to Lovćen National Park. Climb the 461 steps to Njegoš's mausoleum. Late lunch in Njeguši — prosciutto, cheese, homemade rakija. Overnight back in Kotor or move to Budva.
Morning tandem paragliding from Brajići — you'll land on Bečići beach. Afternoon on the sand, sunset drinks with Sveti Stefan views.
3.5 hour scenic drive north via the Piva Canyon (stunning). Check in to Žabljak. Easy Black Lake loop to shake off the drive. Grilled trout for dinner.
Full-day rafting on the Tara — 18 km of Class II–III rapids through Europe's deepest canyon. Zipline across Đurđevića Tara bridge on the way back if you're not exhausted.
Drive south via Podgorica. Boat trip on Skadar Lake (birdlife, water lilies, cliffside monasteries). Wine tasting in the Crmnica valley. Airport drop.
~700 km, ~14 hours behind the wheel spread across 7 days. Rent a car with all-Balkans insurance if you flew into Dubrovnik.
Budget travellers: €500–700 per person all-in (hostels + shared tours + rental car).
Mid-range: €900–1,400 per person (3-star hotels + guided day tours + rental car).
Higher-end: €1,800+ per person (boutique hotels + private guides + driver).
